We’re now into the second half of the schedule, and the rumor mill is getting a bit stupid. People are convinced Lane Kiffin and Mel Tucker are moving on after 2 years in their current job. Kentucky is good while LSU is stumbling around under a lame-duck coach. It appears that Ohio State and ‘Bama have recovered from an early loss and are really, really mad at everybody and trying to score 100 points every week. Let’s see what’s on tap for this week.

Georgia vs. Florida (Jacksonville) – Florida has been up-and-down. UGA has been up-and-up. And up. And up. This might be a hated rivalry game, but sometimes the talent gap is just too big for that to matter. Big Ol’ Hairy Dawgs 33, Lizards 16

Kentucky at Misipi St – Just because Kentucky got trucked by UGA doesn’t mean they are a fraud. They should be able to win this week in spite of those gawd-awful obnoxious cowbells. Briars 24, Jerry Clower U 20

Missouri at Vanderbilt – This is probably Vanderbilt’s last shot at a conference win. This rebuild is going to take a while. Mizzou 20, Vandy 13

Misipi at Auburn – Of course, my heart wants to go all-in for the home team. My head reminds me that their defense can be had (see UGA game) and this opponent has a great offense. I think it will be decided by a big play by a QB. Much as I hate to admit it, Kiffin’s team has the better QB. Misipi 34, war eagle 31

BYE WEEK at ‘Bama – Nick Saban, or as I used to always call him, Coach Clinched Butt Cheeks, can always find something to be angry at. It will be harder to find this week with 2 of his team’s remaining opponents (Ar-Kansas, LSU) also on byes. He’ll probably find something on the New Mexico State film to get all riled up about and grill the team at practice. Cuz that’s how he rolls. The Evil Empire 0, BYE WEEK 0

Charlotte at Western Kentucky – After the FIU win, the CBSSN crew looked at the rest of our schedule and declared all 6 games “winnable.” And we were winning at halftime last week before getting trucked in the second half. WKU has not been especially good, and not at all consistent. However, I remain skeptical of our defense being able to slow down any proficient offense. WKU 37, 49ers 17

Last week’s record: 5-1

Season: 62-19

Other Byes: Ar-Kansas, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M

NFL Week 4 Picks – Who Ya Got?

I’m terrible at picking games this year, but at least I have never given a speech where I questioned, “where is (insert name of dead person here)?” Let’s see if things get better for the picks this week. Miami at Cincinnati (Thur) – Cincy got off the losing train last...

NFL Week 3 Picks – Who Ya Got?

I’m off to my worst start ever predicting game outcomes. I can forgive myself for not picking the Jets. The only people who picked them were Mike Greenberg, Rich Eisen, and blood relatives of Jets players & employees. There are lots of overreactions – let’s...

NFL Week 2 Picks – Who Ya Got?

Well, that round of picks couldn’t have gone much worse-er. Let’s see if we can do better this time around.  LA Chargers at Kansas City (Thur) – Remember all those “No Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs are done” laments? Like ‘Bama, Ohio State, and Georgia, KC just reloaded...

NFL Week 1 Picks – Who Ya Got?

“You know you’re gettin’ old when you start making love to your wife and 10 seconds later think, ‘wait a minute, why did I come in here?’” – Larry the Cable Guy That was me on Monday, realizing I completely forgot to do my entry on week 1 of college football picks....

My Take On Mass Shootings Is a Little Different

Here we are again, in the aftermath of yet another mass shooting. The responses have been very predictable: People screaming what they believe should be done about the shooting, and people with different views screaming about how evil the people that offer those views...
